In honour of Annual Armed Forces Day and to support all those who make up the Armed Forces community from current serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets the flag was raised at Chilton Town Council Offices on Monday 22nd June. This is ahead of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27th June.
A lot of us particularly the Armed Forces Veteran Community were saddened to hear about the sad passing of Dame Vera Lynn, the original forces sweetheart last week at the age of 103, given that she did so much to cheer up our troops during the Second World War.
Sadly due to the coronavirus we are unable to celebrate Armed Forced together as we usually would. However, there is a national social media campaign, #SaluteOurForces which is promoting the day and Sue Snowdon, Lord Lieutenant of County Durham who is known to many of Chilton’s residents has recorded a special message which will be available on YouTube on Saturday 27th June.
