Message from Chilton Town Council
As you are aware, in line with Government advice and the view of the National Pageant Master, the coronavirus pandemic has meant that the events that the Town Council and the community had planned to commemorate the 75 Year Anniversary of VE Day have had to be cancelled.
We have had to carefully balance the need to commemorate this important occasion in our Nation’s history in a fitting and appropriate way, whilst adhering to the rules on social distancing and preventing large gatherings of people, in order to limit the spread of the virus.
Arrangements have therefore been made to, have wreaths laid quietly and discreetly at both our War Memorial’s in a low key manner.
Residents are encouraged to join in the following:
11am – The Nations Remembers
The Royal British Legion is calling people across the UK to join in a moment of reflection and remembrance and pause for a 2 minute silence. This National moment will pay tribute to heroes of the past and present.
3pm – The Nations Toast
In accordance with the request of the National Pageant Master we would like to encourage as many of you as possible at 3pm from within the safety of your own living rooms, front or back gardens to undertake the Nations Toast to the Heroes of World War II by raising your glasses (alcoholic or non alcoholic) and saying
“To those who gave so much, we thank you”
9pm – Address from Her Majesty the Queen
Hear the Queens address at 9pm on BBC 1 then join the rest of the Nation for a sing a long, culminating with everyone invited to join in with Dame Vera Lynn’s 1939 song “We’ll Meet Again”
Thank you for your understanding at this unprecedented time. Please stay safe.
