CCTV in Chilton

It has come to the attention of the Town Council that residents are enquiring how Chilton Town Council operates its CCTV cameras.

The Town Council operate a number of camera within the office and externally on the building. It only has one additional camera that is located in the Charlie Wyman Football Fields at West Chilton Terrace. This particular camera is recording activities on the skate park therefore if any incidents occur outside its vision they will not get recorded.

All the Town Council’s cameras are operating and recording on a 24 hour basis. Under the Data Protection Act members of the public cannot view the CCTV footage however they can request the police to view if any incidents are reported.

The Town Council CCTV camera’s is a reactive system meaning it is not monitored on a 24 hour period however the Town Clerk can view time periods of interest.

To install further cameras around the Town would incur costs which would ultimately be passed onto the rate payers.

If residents feel the need for additional cameras please submit in writing your request 7 days prior to a Council meeting so that the item can be added to the agenda space permitting.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month commencing at 6.30pm in the Council offices. You would be advised of the date of the meeting.

NOTE: There are other CCTV cameras around the Town however, these are the responsibility of Durham County Council.
